Violist Wenhong Luo began her studies as a violinist at the age of 4, and at age 9 won the Silver Award in China’s 1st National Children’s Art Competition. She began playing the viola in 2004, upon entering Beijing’s Music School, attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, and for three years held the post of principal violist in the China Juvenile Orchestra.
In 2006 Wenhong was awarded 1st place in the Central Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition, and two years later made her debut with the China Broadcast Orchestra, performing Walton’s Viola Concerto.
In 2010 Wenhong won the Theodore Holland Viola Prize, and in 2012 was awarded 3rd place in the Johannes Brahms International Competition. More recently she was awarded the 3rd prize in the 12th Lionel Tertis Viola Competition.
A native of Beijing, China, Wenhong holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from London’s Royal Academy of Music, and is currently a Doctoral student at the New England Conservatory, where she studies with Kim Kashkashian.
